Ensuring patient safety is a priority in the provision of the healthcare sector and providing them with a high degree of quality is a prerequisite for strengthening health care systems and making progress in order to achieve comprehensive and effective health care to reach sustainable development.
In May 2019, the World Health Organization's Seventy-second World Health Assembly adopted “Global Action on Patient Safety” (WHA72.6), which included support for a World Patient Safety Day to be observed annually to increase community awareness and involvement, as well as to achieve international solidarity, and WHO member states take measures to improve patient safety.
On September 17, 2021, of this year, the world celebrates the launch of an awareness campaign under the slogan “Safe maternal and newborn care,” where the campaign aims to raise the world’s awareness about the importance of maternal and newborn safety and endorse and adopt the best health practices to reduce the risks and avoidable deaths during childbirth, which are compatible with the duties and functions of the Saudi Center for Patient Safety.
The SPSC also seeks to engage relevant healthcare authorities in collaborative efforts to adopt and implement procedures aimed at improving the quality of healthcare provision, including procedures for mothers and newborns. Fourth, best practices in maternal and newborn care should be supported.
Therefore, the Saudi Patient Safety Center urges the activation of the World Patient Safety Day 2021 in all health facilities to enhance the importance of maternal and newborn safety.
