SPSC WHOcc conducts a "Patient Safety Officer" Workshop in collaboration with FJMU in Pakistan

The Saudi Patient Safety Center - WHO Collaborating Center on Patient Safety Policies and Strategies - and Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) will be conducting an exclusive virtual workshop entitled “Patient Safety Officer (PSO)” with the participation of 30 healthcare professionals from Pakistan over 4-days during August 18, 19, 25 & 26, 2020.
The Patient Safety Officers Training Program is a comprehensive program that targets all healthcare providers and will provide the participants with the following:
- Context, key principles, and competencies associated with the discipline of patient safety.
- History of the patient safety movement.
- Describe the science and disciplines used in patient safety.
- Current best practices and strategies for overcoming barriers to safe care.
The program will also include key resources and an initial assessment and final examination to test the participants on the content and against the stated learning objectives.
Dr. Abdulelah Alhawsawi, Director General of SPSC said the following during his introductory speech: “We at the Saudi Patient Safety Center (SPSC) are proud of this collaboration with the East Mediterranean and North African countries starting with Pakistan in the “Patient Safety Officer” training program with the participation of health practitioners. We are honored to continue this collaboration and learning in the field of healthcare quality and patient safety.” He continued to express that: “Strengthening safety within healthcare services should be a priority, especially as the world is battling the corona pandemic. Therefore, one of the issues that we focus on in this workshop is the safety of patients in all categories as well as the safety of healthcare practitioners, which are integral components of patient safety.”
Speeches by distinguished guests continued. Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Provincial Minister of Punjab for Health and Prof. Aamer Zaman Khan, Vice-Chancellor at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, are pleased with the collaboration with SPSC and expressed that the PSO training workshop comes in line with reinforcing the cooperation between the two countries and will positively impact healthcare safety.
